The Helsinki Chamber Choir has had a long association with the music of Erik Bergman. To mark the day on which Bergman would have celebrated his 115th birthday, the choir revives his rarely-heard Missa in honorem Sancti Henrici of 1971. This Catholic mass was commissioned by the Helsinki Festival as part of a series of large-scale works celebrating the major faiths of Finland; the project also resulted in Einojuhani Rautavaara’s well-known Orthodox Vigilia

The concert is conducted by the dynamic Elisa Huovinen, who also brings her own choir, Akademiska Sångföreningen – formerly conducted by Erik Bergman – to pay tribute to its former artistic director. The concert is presented in association with the Swedish Cultural Foundation, which will announce the recipient of the Erik Bergman Prize during the course of the evening.
